Week 24, PoD Block

This week's block is another block of books.  I'm not crazy about my colors this week, but I think they will be ok when they are in the quilt.

Here are all my blocks so far.

Cleaning out my scraps has not reignited my interest in quilting, but I want to keep up with this quilt.  I also pulled out an old UFO and worked on in about an hour today.  Baby steps.

One Nation

I lost about a week of stitching waiting for my pearl cotton to be shipped, but I've made good progress on One Nation.  I finished all the stripes and have started on the stars.

I am doing the stars in a straight stitch with pearl cotton instead of cross stitching them.  The method I am using is much faster than cross stitching them, but I am not sure if I like the look of it any better.  If I chose to cross stitched them all, this piece would take many more hours and might never be completed.  As it stands now, I could have a finish by next reporting time.

To see what others in the group are working on:  Avis, Claire, Gun, Carole, Sue, Constanze, Christina, Kathy, Margaret, Cindy, Heidi, Jackie, Sunny, Hayley, Megan, Deborah, Mary Margaret, Renee, Carmela, Sharon, Daisy, Anne, Connie, AJ, Jenny, Laura, Cathie, Linda, Helen

Week 23, PoD Block

I worked on my sewing room this weekend and got rid of two 33 gallon trash bags worth of scraps. I have another one that is half full. I am a scrap quilter, but even I couldn't have used up all those scraps, and I don't want to leave them for my children to throw away.

There is still a lot to do, but I've moved things around and swept the floor.  To anyone other than me, it looks pretty clean.   I haven't touched my chest, full of miscellaneous sewing notions, fusibles, old cross stitch projects.  I also haven't touched my 3 plastic sets of drawers or the shelves.  If I set my mind to it, I could have the whole thing done in a couple of days.

I am not sure if I have my sewing motivation back or not, but I did manage to finish this week's PoD block before Friday.  This is another block of books.

I also spent some time working on my next Sew Many Strips quilt.  This will be my fourth one. So far I've made it in cool colors:

In batiks:

In Fall colors:

The next one will be anything goes.  I'm trying to use up some odd ball fat quarters and want to get mix of colors. I may also reverse the darks and the lights because I have already made too many light units.

Week 22, PoD Block

This week's block is a block of books.

I have been having a hard time getting motivated to sew lately.  I'm going to try and do a big sewing room clean up this weekend and see if that helps.

Week 21, PoD Block

This week block is the one with the quill.

It took me a while to get the stem of the quill lined up, and it isn't perfect now, but close enough.  I wish the end of the quill were a little thicker or that I had used a darker fabric for it, as it is hard to see.  It doesn't bother me enough to redo the piece!

One Nation

I am so pleased to be able to report that I have made significant progress on One Nation.  I am still not excited about working on it, but I have been forcing myself to stitch on  it almost daily.  There are projects I want to start that I won't start until I finish this one.

Here's where I was at the last report:

Here's where I am now:

The stripes are almost done!   I think I might use a satin stitch and pearl cotton  instead of cross stitch for the stars.

Week 20, PoD Block

I finished the candle block today.

Then I pulled out all my PoD blocks to check the color balance.  I have a lot of green blocks, I think.  Maybe I need some more pink or yellow.  I want to try and use colors that won't fade into the background.
