Breaking Even

In my head I know that that the 'used' numbers I report are just estimates.  It does feel good to be out of the red and to have net used numbers to report, but really, at 1/8 yard used, I'm  just breaking even.  With 6 months to go this year and a scheduled trip to 2 quilt shops next week.  Yikes!  I need to use some stash soon, or I'll ruin all my progress.

Used this week: 5.0 yards
Used Year to Date: 48.5 yards
Added this week: 0 yards
Added year to date:  48.375 yards
Net Used:  0.125  yards

In case you missed my Friday post, here's the quilt that pushed me over the edge.

Being Realistic

I have several UFOs in my stash that I will probably never finish.

These 30s repro print blocks would make a great baby quilt.  I made them in 2007.  They were a block of the month from my LQS.  I don't like 30s prints very much.

It wouldn't take much effort to sash them and make a baby quilt, but not a quilt I would want to give to a friend. My friends are mostly in their late 40s early 50s, not having babies anymore. Even if they were, I have a hard time giving away a quilt I don't really like myself.   I pull out these blocks several times a year and then put them away again.  Quilter's block or laziness, whatever the cause, I don't want to work with these.

Here is another quilt I will never finish.

This is one of those 'what was I thinking projects'.  Most of he fabric came from a friend.  I found the pattern online, and the person who was doing the tutorial stopped part way through.  I could power through it, but I don't like my colors.  I tried making this one of my goals in 2012 but never got very far on it.

These UFOs are going to charity.

Top Complete!

I put my life on hold yesterday afternoon and spent 4 hours finishing up this quilt top.  I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.  The binding will be the same dark green as the inner border.   I will probably give this quilt to my brother the next time I draw his name at Christmas.  To me, the colors seem masculine, and even though it is a floral print, it looks more like a jungle than a garden.   The dimensions are 81x 76 inches.

June Ornament/ Sleepy Hollow Week 8

I've been working on my June ornament for about 6 weeks and finally finished it yesterday.  It took a long time because it is solidly stitched.

This is an Ink Circles' Stained Glass Pine.  To see more ornaments:  http://stitchinglotus.ca/2013/06/ornament-sal-june-check-in/

I also need to report on Sleepy Hollow.  I did at least 2 hours the past two weeks, but progress is slow.  At this rate it will be done for Halloween 2014, which is fine because I really can't afford to frame it any time soon.

WISP

This quilt is officially a WISP (Work In Slow Progress).  I've been spending time on it, but it seems to take forever to line the strips up, pin and sew them together, check the points, rip out the bad parts and finally press.  It is tedious, mindless work.  My goal was  to have this quilt done by the end of the month.   Don't think that is going to happen.

Same Old Quilt

My one block wonder quilt is still on my makeshift design wall.  I'm using a flannel backed tablecloth, but I still have to pin the blocks to it, or they fall off.  This week I decided to start sewing the rows together.  I know I could spend many more hours deciding where the blocks should go, making it perfect . But it is good enough, and I'm ready to get moving on it.

This week I used a GC to get 2 yards of green for the inner border of OBW.  There was a big sale at my LQS, and I had money left on  my GC, so I also bought some yellow and orange fabric.  My yellow, orange and pink scrap bins are close to empty.

Used this week: 0 yards
Used Year to Date: 43.5 yards
Added this week: 4.125 yards
Added year to date:  48.375 yards
Net Added: 4.875  yards

Now I'm firmly in the net added territory.  To see more design walls: http://www.patchworktimes.com/2013/06/17/design-wall-monday-20/

Sleepy Hollow, Week 6

My goal was to work at least 2 hours a week on Sleepy Hollow.  This week, that is about all I managed.

Design Wall and Stash Update.

We were at the beach for sand soccer this weekend so not much sewing.  I did buy a few fat quarters to make cubes for my one block wonder quilt.  I've spent hours and hours on this, rearranging the blocks and trying to get the color balance right.  The cubes help, but I'm still not satisfied.  Here's what I have so far:

Used this week: 0 yards
Used Year to Date: 43.5 yards
Added this week: 2   yards
Added year to date:  44.25 yards
Net Added: 0.75   yards

A little disappointed that I'm back into net added territory, but as soon as I finish this quilt my numbers will look better.  It is going to get worse, though before it gets better because I need to buy some solid color fabric for the inner border.

Sleepy Hollow, week 5

There was no post for Sleepy Hollow last week because I didn't stitch on it at all the week before.  I tried to make up for it and stitched at least 4 more hours on it last week.  I'm making good progress.  Icabod and his horse are almost done.
