One Nation

I joined a cross stitch SAL to help with my motivation.  Everyone in the group choses their own focus piece, and we all blog about third every third week.  This is the first week I am participating, and I hope they don't kick me out before I even get started because I'm so late posting!

I think One Nation is a great cross stitch pattern, but it is so big, it is awkward to work on.  I don't use scroll rods, and with the state of my health, I am trying not to buy any more hobby equipment than necessary.  I am using q-snaps for this project, but it is too big and heavy to use a q-snap frame to fit the whole flag in. I hate putting the q-snaps on top of my stitching, but I'm having to do just that, because the project is so big.  So I've been putting this off, and I want to finish it.

Here's where I am now:

Four more long rows to go, plus the little bit on this white row, and all the stars.  It's a lot of stitching!

To see what others in the group are working on:

Avis, Claire, Gun, Carole, Sue, Constanze, Christina, Kathy, Margaret, Cindy, Heidi, Jackie, Sunny, Hayley, Megan, Deborah, Mary Margaret, Renee, Carmela, Jocelyn, Sharon, Daisy, Anne, Connie, AJ, Jenny, Laura, Cathie

that's a very ambitious project and will be so effective when finished!

Hi Laura! Welcome to the stitch-a-long! I have loved being part of this group as it keeps me motivated to keep working on large projects. (Okay, I didn't get much done in these past three weeks, but...). Your project is lovely and it will be fun to see how you get along!

We both joined this SAL this week. It is nice to meet you through your blog. I really don't think that the Q-snaps will harm you project at all. Your stitching is beautiful. I really love that pattern.

Laura, this is such a cool piece! I use a small spring hoop for my cross stitching and embroidery. When I'm done for the day, I just take it off, and the hoop marks usually disappear when I wash and iron. So glad you joined our group!

It looks like this piece is already more than halfway done. Maybe with our encouragement it won't take as long as you expect to get it finished. Because it NEEDS to be finished! It's a very cool design, I'd not seen it before.

This One Nation cross stitch is fabulous, Laura. I have never known you to have trouble with your motivation....quite the opposite.

Welcome to the group! Your project is great! I love the idea of stitching all the names of the states in the flag!

Welcome! What a wonderful project this is...new to me. I understand the issue of putting your stitching through a frame. I had to do that lots with the second last project, a large sampler, and I cringed every time I did it. Happy Stitching!

That is going to be a great project. I'm sure the q-snaps will work ok.

What a great way to stay motivated on your project! I’ve heard of people using batting scraps between the Q-snaps and linen so that it doesn’t stress the stitches as much.
