One Monthly Goal, January

My goal for this month is to finish a quilt top that has been hanging around here in this state for at least four years.  This is my twilter round robin quilt, started in 2014:

I made just the center block of this quilt and sent it off to my round robin group.

Each of five quilters this went to added another round to the quilt.    My instructions were to use neutrals only, no fabric on the color wheel.  A couple of the participants used a blue/gray that I would not have chosen for this quilt, but it turned out ok colorwise.  I like neutral quilts, but I find them tedious to work on.

I appreciate all the work these ladies put into my quilt, but I have been at a loss to decide what to do for a final border.  There are a lot of seams on the outsides, and right now this quilt isn't really big enough to be useful.  It has been on my design wall for several weeks, waiting for inspiration to strike.  I may just add a dark brown border and call it done!

Oh nice! I like your Round Robin, subtle colors. Hope you enjoy finishing it.

It's an interesting quilt, but I think round robins always are: so many quilters, so many tastes! A brown border, sounds OK, pulling up the brown in your original block, or what about pale grey, echoing the grey in the centre? Finally it's your decision. Good luck with your finish.

The turned out really nice. I have always been hesitant to join in Round Robins.

Good luck with achieving your goal. The quilt looks good so far, and deserves to be finished. What about a narrow brown, then a lighter grey outer border? Maybe just pin up a few options round it on the design wall and look at them for a while!

It's a nice quilt. I wonder what you will come up with.

I find working with neutrals quite tedious too. I look forward to seeing how you finish this quilt but sometimes, just adding a border and being finished is better than over thinking and stressing. Happy Sewing!

Wow, that’s a really neat quilt - you had a good group to exchange with. Good luck getting it finished this month!

Very pretty! I'd put it up on the design wall and try out border colors. You're sure to find one that makes the rest of the quilt sing along. Good luck with it!

Very nice. I have a round robin that I recently got back and am contemplating what to do as well. I’ll try not to wait 6 years to decide !

I have two guild RRs in the box o'flimsies. I am contemplating disassembling one of them and rearranging all the components. Yours has very nice elements and I like the colorway -- but the round with the melon-piece corners has is empty by comparison with the other rounds. A little empty is okay, but I think it's too much. (Which doesn't resolve your design situation since there are two beautiful borders beyond.)

This is a lovely top! Looking forward to seeing how you decide to finish it off. I've never joined a round robin, though a guild I once belonged to did them every year.

It's a really lovely piece. If you are open to suggestions I think it would be nice to use more of the tan colour that you used in the centre of the quilt.

Good luck with your goal, I'm reading some of these posts late. In a way, it would be a bit difficult to make part of a quilt to be given to someone else to finish up. (Well, for me, anyway.) It is lovely, though, and anything handmade is much better than made in China!
