Will's Quilt

I have only one graduation quilt to make this year, but I'm having a hard time with it.  Over a year ago,   I bought 2 layer cakes of Janet Clair's Fight, thinking the color palette and design would be perfect for my nephew.  And it is.  I knew I would have to add more fabrics to get a big enough top, and I'm working on that.  I'm also working on a design for the quilt.  I googled airplane quilts, but a lot of them seemed more for little boys than for a teenager who wants to fly.  My quilt design is based on a quilt I saw a while ago on Facebook.  I'm not sure of the maker of that one.  Anyway, this is the beginning of Will's quilt:

I would like to have the top complete by the end of April so that I have time to have it longarmed and get it bound.  I haven't participated in Elm Street Quilts' One Monthly Goal, but this month, I'm going to.  I need a little push to get sewing on this!

What a wonderful design! The airplanes add interest to the flying geese and vice versa. Your nephew will be delighted.

It's coming along. I made an airplane quilt for my husband years ago. I love it, but I wish now the plane silhouette that I used was more "real". Yours is perfect! He's gonna love it!!!

You have a great start here. I like the plane silhouette you are using, and it goes perfectly with all the flying geese. The bits of red here and there really add a lot of interest.

This is a fabulous design, Laura. I love the design you have come up with. Those planes are perfect for a teenage boy.

What a fun idea to use Janet's fabric for your quilt! I hope you can get it done in time to gift it to your nephew!

This is going to be a fabulous quilt. I love geese and they make a great play with the planes, especially with the dynamic placement you've chosen. Good luck.

It is a great quilt and I bet he will love it. Have you thought about adding a little “white space” (maybe in blue or red or whatever the color of the plane is) between the planes and the flying geese? That might make the planes pop a little more.
