Quilt Labels, Stash Report

I don't always label my quilts, and I don't feel guilty about it.  (I also don't write names on the back of all my old pictures.) Documentation isn't that important to me, and I chose to spend my time doing things that are important to me.  Future quilt historians will need something to do!

If a quilt is a gift, though, I do put a label on it.  Most of my quilt labels are just written in a pigma pen or a sharpie.  A few of them are  hand embroidered on linen and sewn to the quilt backs. My favorite alphabet is the Beyond Cross Stitch free alphabet from The Victoria Sampler.  http://www.victoriasampler.com/Free_Patterns/Default.aspx

Here is that label I made for my son's quilt:

Here's one from my Tokyo Subway quilt, a gift for my friend.

I embroidered one for my brother's wedding quilt.

I embroidered directly on the front of Julio's adoption quilt.

I also embroidered labels on the front of my Project of Doom quilts, where book titles would normally go.

Nice labels. I don't like to make labels, but, I do (sometimes).

Beautiful labels!
When it comes to labels I have the greatest intentions but a really crappy follow through.....
Glad to know you don't put one on every quilt, makes me feel better!

Great labels. I was very disappointed recently when a label that I printed and then heat set almost totally disappeared when the quilt was washed. I will have to use my pigma pens to update the label. I like the idea of cross-stitching a label. I never thought of that.

I like to label my quilts. I have only made a few, but I feel that making a quilt is so much effort that it is worth making a little more effort to label it.

I really like your label for Ben's Quilt of Many Colors.

I love you labels! Especially the one on the book spine... so clever.

I haven't really developed a method of consistent labeling. I embroider one, if giving as gift. The quilts that we use here at home don't have labels yet. Maybe someday this winter they'll get labeled.

Thanks so much for linking up to last week's Stitchery Link Party and for the link back. Aloha hugs!

These labels are amazing. I have only put one label on one quilt ever - but all the ladies in my quilting club keep telling me off. Glad I am in good company over here!

I think having a blog to document quilts is the best! They usually get a post full of info that I can go back and reference if I need too! Your labels are adorable!

Your labels are BEAUTIFUL! I've done machine embroidered labels for most of my quilts, but I really love the way your hand embroidered labels look.
