I got the quilt to the longarmer last week too, so I should have some fabric used to report soon.
This weekend I've been working on the Project of Doom Quilt. So far I have 3 blocks done. This is my first real paper piecing project. The paper piecing would be pretty easy except for the fact that I have to get the book titles lined up sort of in the middle of the books' spines, and I feel like
I'm working blind.
If you have ever done paper piecing, you know what I mean. The embroidered piece goes right side down, and the printed pattern piece lies one top of it with the printed side up. I have to feel the embroidered titles to see if they are properly placed.
In one block I ripped out one seam 5 times before I got something that was acceptable (not perfect, just acceptable). It seemed like a good idea at the time to embroider the titles before I put them into the blocks. Now I'm wondering if I should put the blocks together and then embroider the titles. Except that I'm using soluble canvas. I don't think it would be a good idea to wash the blocks after they are paper pieced. I think I would get a lot of distortion by doing that.
I am not sure why this picture uploaded on its side. It looks right on my computer. I like the little green vial with the frogs in it. Very Harry Potterish, I think!

Fun blocks. It may be a pain now, but you'll be so happy with this project when it's done. Remember, no one else will realize if something is a little off, just you.
This quilt will be so wonderful! Definitely worth the time and effort.
Looks like a fun project. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
OMG you are so fearless to tackle this. I think what you've done so far looks phenomenal and can't wait to see the finished project. I'm just in awe!
Love your books, they look great. Looks like a ton of work, I am too impatient to tackle anything like this. Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
Wuaaaaaaaah! I can´t believe that you are also sewing Harry Potter!
I just started with mine - but not the project of doom - I sew the patterns of the book for Lukas confirmation quilt. We read HP every evening together and this will be a good souvenir of his childhood once he is an adult.
