Easy Street, part 1

I finished my four patches yesterday.  I'm not using all black and white prints because I don't want to cut into my fat quarters unless I have too.  I'm trying to use up scraps.  My neutral is any fabric lighter than a paper bag.  I've used white tone on tones, cream with prints, black and white.  Some of my neutrals have red, blue, orange, pink or green in them.

My constant isn't constant either.  I think I have 6 shades of gray, with one of the grays leaning towards dark green.  If I had more grays, I'd use more, but I don't want to have to buy any fabric for this quilt except for the backing.

That's also how I chose my quilt colors.  I don't have enough aqua blues without cutting into fat quarters, and I don't have enough yellow-greens, so my colors are orange, green and purple.  I don't agonize over colors for any mystery quilt. I use what I have, and if I don't really like it, I can donate it.  The best part is I'm using what I have.  This is a free quilt for me.

Request for help:  I started this blog a year ago, and now it seems I've used up all the storage in my Picassa web album.  Do most of you pay for photo storage?  I'd like to keep it free if I can, so I've been deleting photos from my old blog posts.  If you have some technical advice for me, please let me know.  Thanks!

Great colour choices! I've been debating using scrappy greys as well, but keep waivering. I do pay for storage with Picassa, it's $2.95 a month. One thing I have starting doing is resizing my photos using my photo editing software to a smaller format (96 dpi) so my picture files are much smaller.

I like your ideas for using what you have. I'm of the same frame of mind. I haven't totally committed to doing this, but love the colors and will probably relent and just DO IT. Like you, I'm trying to use what I have too. You have helped me make the decision to go with the flow. Thanks for your inspiration.

I'm glad to see someone else is doing the grey's scappy too. I started to second guess myself looking at everyone doing it with a constant. I dont store my photo's online so can't help there.

From something I read recently, there is a way to post the pictures "smaller" on the pixels.... and to delete old posts... the person who posted had bought some additional space once but did not want to do it again.

I love your scrappy 4-patches. Looking forward to step 2.

I had the same problem but did not pay for more storage. Blogspot blogs automatically create a picasa photo album, and although you can keep uploading photos to your blog without it deleting them, it's best to resize your photos using a photo editing program (photoscape is free to download online and easy for a non-techie like me to understand). I resized all my photos that I had stored on my computer to maximum width 500 pixels. Then I got into my picasa web albums and my blogger editing screen, and I manually deleted the old supersized photos in both spots and uploaded the new, slimmed down versions. It took a long time but finally my maxed out storage became not maxed out. Hope this helps... I wish someone had explained it to me when I started blogging.

One of my blogs has tons of images and I've never run out of room. I use the microsoft picture editing software that came on my computer. I choose compress pictures option and 72dpi. I do it because much of the world is still on dial up and big images won't load on their computers. I've was dial up until recently, can you tell? :)
But I wouldn't mind that small fee when it comes time, I get a ton of enjoyment from my blog.

I love seeing what everyone has pulled out for the background and their choice for constant! Thank you for sharing yours, Sharyn
