My son requested pound cake for his birthday. Usually I just buy one at the grocery store, but today I decided to make my husband's grandma's cake. Greatma was a great cook! Here's the recipe. ( If you are on a low cholesterol diet, you might want to skip this.)
Greatma's Cake
3 sticks butter, room temp
2 1/2 cups sugar
10-12 eggs, separated (yes, 10-12 eggs!)
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Beat egg whites together until stiff.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream butter with sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time, mixing in each. Mix in the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Add the vanilla and lemon extracts.
Gently fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
Bake in a well-greased and floured tube pan at 325 for about an hour and a half. ( Check cake after an hour and 15 minutes.)

Boy does that ever smell good!! My mouth is watering. This would be a great recipe for someone like Judy who gathers 16 eggs daily from her laying hens!! Wish I lived closer for a taste.
THis also loks like it would be a great cake for a sew day with friends. Thanks for rejuvinating this recipe at Tuesday Archives.
I'll supply the eggs if you'll make that cake and share it with e. It looks so good!
