Monster March

It's time for another cross stitch update.  Here is where I was 3 weeks ago on Monster March:

Here's where I am now.  After the vampire, I have a skeleton, another bat, and a word to do.  If I really worked hard, I could have it finished by next check in, but it will probably take a little longer than 3 weeks to finish.

Batik Sew Many Strips

I got my Batik Sew Many Strips quilt back from the longarmer and bound it this week.  The pattern is from American Patchwork and Quilting. https://www.apqshop.com/Sew-Many-Strips-p/qgr-00265.htm

This quilt is 84"x84".

This is my new favorite pattern for scraps.  Debbie Cooper of Finish My Quilt did the longarming, and I chose a pattern that is swirly and gives a lot of texture.  You can see the pattern very well on the back.

Plaid-ish

I've spent the last couple of weeks putting together Plaid-ish.  Plaid-ish is a free scrap pattern by Kitchen Table Quilting  http://www.kitchentablequilting.com/2019/06/plaid-ish-scrap-quilt-and-tutorial.html.

This quilt is 82"x 64".  I was hoping to use up a lot of scraps, but I haven't even made a dent.  My quilting room is full of scraps, no matter how many quilts I make.  I don't want my family to have a mess to clean up after I am gone, so I'm going to start passing along some of my scraps to other quilters.

Stash Report:

Used this week: 4.0 yards (Plaid-ish)
Used YTD: 68.625 yards
Added this week: 3.75 yards (backing for Bram Bones, bookcase fabric)
Added YTD: 51.5 yards

Pillowcases

I've spent the last couple of days making pillowcases from my stash.  These are for my son to go with the Gravity quilt I made him several years ago.  I wish I had bought enough of the rainbow stripes to have them going the other way on the cuff, but I didn't so I made the two different to get all the colors.

I made these two pillowcases for my nieces who are in college.  I bought the kits when the oldest was a sophomore.  Now she is a senior.
This one is for my other niece who is a girl scout.  She is working on her gold award.  The fabric is leftover from the backing of her graduation quilt.
These three pillowcases were made using leftover fabric from a quilt I gave to my SIL. If I were buying fabric for pillowcases, I would have been fussier about which way the print ran on them.  Two of these are for the daughters of a family friend.   I made the daughters lots of holiday pillowcases while they were in college, but they had nothing for the summer.

Frolic, Quilted and Bound

I finished machine binding Frolic this morning.  Usually when I use a different color binding and backing, I will finish the binding by hand.  Today I took a chance and bound it by machine.  There are two places I am not entirely happy with, but if I rip them out, they probably won't look any better, so I'm going to leave them as they are.

Denise Zapf of Quilting MoJo did the longarming for me. I asked her to pick the pantograph and thread.  I like the way the quilting shows up on the border.   The thread is a variegated blue.

Frolic was Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt last fall.  Mine is a little different from hers.  She wanted us to keep track of pieces so that the overall quilt would be scrappy but each block would have the same color star points.  That was too much work for me.  I didn't do any matching and keeping track of pairs.  I also changed the colors.  I'm getting better at picking colors that will work in a mystery quilt.  Some of my earlier mysteries have odd color combinations.

This quilt is 91" x 91" and will either be a wedding quilt for a friend's daughter or a gift for my husband's aunt and uncle.  We have too many quilts in our house!

Ocean One Block Wonder

About 3 years ago, I bought panels of this print, planning to make a one block wonder.

I got the triangles cut out and sewn together, but I couldn't arrange them in a way I liked, so I put it away.  Two weeks ago, I pulled it  out and figured out how to arrange them.  Then I made myself work on it for an hour a day until the top was done.

This quilt is 63" x 71".

This quilt doesn't really appeal to me, but my husband likes it.  He likes anything blue!  I have an extra panel to put on the back of the quilt, but I will need to buy more fabric for the rest of the backing.
