SAL Check In

At last SAL check in, I had no stitching to report.  Today I have just a little.  Three weeks ago, my Southern Sampler looked like this:

After working on  the vines for a few hours, it looks like this.  I did not tackle any of the queen stitches.

This week I also got a note from the place where I had ordered purple aida cloth last October.  It is finally in.  I am not sure if I will force myself to work on this one or will switch to a different project once the aida is here.

Grassy Creek Mystery, Clue 6

Bonnie string pieced her units for Grassy Creek's clue 6.  I didn't have a good variety or quantity of gray scraps, so I cut mine from a single piece of fabric.

The mystery reveal came out today, so I have enough sewing to keep me busy for a few weeks!

Quilts Finished in 2020

I got sixteen quilt tops sewn this year but only 5 quilted and bound.  I have not been working since the pandemic started, so I have less money for longarming.  Here are the quilts I finished in 2020:

Frolic:

Forest Friends:

Bram Bones:

SAL Check In

I have done no stitching at all since I finished my wool table runner.  My plan was to start Sue Hillis' Dark Shadows, but the fabric I ordered never came in.

In the meantime, I should have been working on an old UFO, Eileen Bennett's Southern Sampler.

But this sampler is full of queen stitches, and I just couldn't face them.

A friend of mine just gave me a sweet little Christmas embroidery kit.  I may start that.

Hope I have some actual stitching progress to report in 3 weeks!

Grassy Creek Mystery, Clue 3

I finished the third step in  Bonnie Hunter's Grassy Creek Mystery.

I almost decided to scrap this quilt when I saw clue 3.  Most of the time, I can do the units the way I prefer:  oversize them and trim to the correct size, but the measurements were irregular this time, and I couldn't figure out how to do that.  I ended up using Bonnie's method and hope they turn out the right size.

Grassy Creek Mystery

I was slow starting Bonnie Hunter's new Grassy Creek Mystery, but I got caught up on the first two clues this week.

I haven't used Bonnie's colors the past few years, but this year, I think I will.  Only I didn't have enough gold fabric and don't want to buy any fabric for this quilt, so I'm using what gold I have and using yellow for the rest.  My gray is all the same for the first clue too since I had a big piece of it to use up.

I am also not going to deliberately make units of the same colors and keep them clipped together as the directions say to do. This is a scrap quilt, so I'm just not going to get that fussy about it!  Last year's quilt Frolic had the same instructions as to clipping units together.  I ignored them last year, and my quilt turned out fine.  Here's my Frolic:
