Not Quite Zuckerwatte

I finished a UFO today.  It is based on a Bonnie Hunter string pattern called Zuckerwatte (Cotton Candy).  I've been working on this quilt for at least two years.  The string blocks take a long time to piece, and it probably spent about a year in a box after I got the string blocks done.

My quilt blocks are backwards from the pattern.  My white strings and pink strings are reversed. The pattern is so busy, it doesn't make a bit of difference to me.  This quilt is 60 1/2 x 72 1/2.  The pattern shows a scalloped border, but I'm not sure I'm going to do that.  It seems like a lot of work!

Week 25, PoD Block

I forced myself to finish another PoD block today. I wish I had used a darker teal for the quill, but it is ok.

Yesterday I worked a little on this pink and purple scrap quilt.  I've had the string blocks done for a couple of years now and am just getting around to putting the quilt together.

Week 24, PoD Block

This week's block is another block of books.  I'm not crazy about my colors this week, but I think they will be ok when they are in the quilt.

Here are all my blocks so far.

Cleaning out my scraps has not reignited my interest in quilting, but I want to keep up with this quilt.  I also pulled out an old UFO and worked on in about an hour today.  Baby steps.

One Nation

I lost about a week of stitching waiting for my pearl cotton to be shipped, but I've made good progress on One Nation.  I finished all the stripes and have started on the stars.

I am doing the stars in a straight stitch with pearl cotton instead of cross stitching them.  The method I am using is much faster than cross stitching them, but I am not sure if I like the look of it any better.  If I chose to cross stitched them all, this piece would take many more hours and might never be completed.  As it stands now, I could have a finish by next reporting time.

Week 23, PoD Block

I worked on my sewing room this weekend and got rid of two 33 gallon trash bags worth of scraps. I have another one that is half full. I am a scrap quilter, but even I couldn't have used up all those scraps, and I don't want to leave them for my children to throw away.

There is still a lot to do, but I've moved things around and swept the floor.  To anyone other than me, it looks pretty clean.   I haven't touched my chest, full of miscellaneous sewing notions, fusibles, old cross stitch projects.  I also haven't touched my 3 plastic sets of drawers or the shelves.  If I set my mind to it, I could have the whole thing done in a couple of days.

I am not sure if I have my sewing motivation back or not, but I did manage to finish this week's PoD block before Friday.  This is another block of books.

I also spent some time working on my next Sew Many Strips quilt.  This will be my fourth one. So far I've made it in cool colors:

In batiks:

In Fall colors:

The next one will be anything goes.  I'm trying to use up some odd ball fat quarters and want to get mix of colors. I may also reverse the darks and the lights because I have already made too many light units.

Week 22, PoD Block

This week's block is a block of books.

I have been having a hard time getting motivated to sew lately.  I'm going to try and do a big sewing room clean up this weekend and see if that helps.

Week 21, PoD Block

This week block is the one with the quill.

It took me a while to get the stem of the quill lined up, and it isn't perfect now, but close enough.  I wish the end of the quill were a little thicker or that I had used a darker fabric for it, as it is hard to see.  It doesn't bother me enough to redo the piece!
